Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso, former CEO of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), received the Personality of Great Impact and Excellence Award. This award was presented at the Ghana Titans Awards ceremony in Accra. The event recognized significant contributions to national development across various sectors.
Dr. Owusu-Danso is a plastic, aesthetic, and hand surgeon with over 35 years of experience. He was honored for his leadership and contributions to Ghana’s health sector during his five-year tenure as KATH's CEO. The Business Executive Media Group and the Titans Awards Group organized the event.
He previously served as General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association. He also held the position of Secretary for the Commonwealth Medical Association for nine years. The citation accompanying his award stated he was identified as a Personality of Great Impact and Excellence.
During his time at KATH, Dr. Owusu-Danso led over 30 major projects that improved hospital operations and services. Notably, KATH became Ghana's first teaching hospital accredited by HeFRA, scoring 84%. His leadership revived stalled projects like the Maternity and Children’s Block redevelopment.
He oversaw the construction of a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a modern Patient Relatives Hostel. Additionally, he installed two ultramodern oxygen plants worth GH₵5.4 million, giving KATH West Africa's largest medical oxygen production capacity.
Amid COVID-19, he established an accredited testing center at KATH, making it the first hospital in Ghana to do so. It was also the third center nationally after Noguchi Memorial Institute and Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research. His efforts secured GH₵5 million from Ghana Gas Company to expand psychiatry facilities from 9 to 40 beds.
He completed a housing complex for junior doctors and led KATH's digital transformation on August 1, 2020. This streamlined clinical operations and reduced patient waiting times significantly. To boost staff morale, he reinstated Annual Best Staff Awards after four years.
Dr. Owusu-Danso facilitated customer care training for staff with Fidelity Bank's support. He also introduced free cancer screenings for staff members covering breast, cervical, and prostate cancers. Under his leadership, new policies were implemented in 2021 to strengthen governance and service delivery at KATH.
For his dedication to healthcare in Ghana, Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso is recognized as a national asset. The honor from the Ghana Titans Awards reflects his career defined by excellence and impact.
