Former NSB chief remanded by High Court over witness interference allegation

Kwabena Adu-Boahen, the former head of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has been remanded for seven days. A High Court in Accra ordered this after a request from Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine.

During a hearing on Friday, Dr. Ayine presented intelligence reports. These reports suggested that Adu-Boahen tried to interfere with a key witness in an ongoing theft case.

Adu-Boahen's defense lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, strongly disputed these claims. He questioned the credibility of the intelligence and argued his client had no means or motive to influence any witness.

The presiding judge decided to review the evidence privately before making a ruling. After examining the preliminary material, the judge ruled for a seven-day remand.

This remand allows time for the state to prepare witness statements and protect trial integrity. The court emphasized balancing Adu-Boahen's rights with judicial process needs.

Two others charged with Adu-Boahen—his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng and Mildred Donkor—were granted bail.

The Attorney General also mentioned ongoing investigations involving Adu-Boahen at Ghana Water Limited. This could lead to additional charges soon.

Kwabena Adu-Boahen is set to return to court on Friday, May 9, 2025.
