The Krowor Municipal Assembly (KROMA) in Greater Accra has demolished a shrine. This structure was illegally built on a waterway and within a railway reservation.
The demolition faced resistance from angry youth. They claimed the shrine had spiritual significance. However, the Ghana Police Service helped restore order during the operation.
Cameras captured the tense moments as officials enforced the removal. Municipal Chief Executive Paul Afotey Quaye explained why they acted. He said the structure posed serious risks to public safety.
Quaye warned residents against building on waterways without permits. He emphasized that the Assembly is committed to enforcing building regulations. Protecting community members' lives and property is a priority.
"We cannot allow selfish interests to compromise safety," he stated. The MCE also mentioned working with traditional leaders for better land use.
This demolition supports President Akufo-Addo’s agenda for improved urban planning and public safety.
