Galamsey: 22 arrested in Western Region

The Western Central Police Command has arrested 22 people for illegal mining. This took place in the Western Region, including Dominase Nkwanta and Adjakaa Manso.

The arrests occurred on April 8, 2025. They were part of an operation to combat illegal mining, known as "galamsey."

Deputy Commander ACP Bismark Agyapong spoke to the media about the suspects. Their ages range from 19 to 30 years old. Some of their names include Albert Adu Bonsra, Stephen Kwakye, and Richard Atigah.

During the operation, police seized equipment used for illegal mining. This included 11 pumping machines, seven shovels, one pick-axe, and two chamfan machines.

ACP Agyapong stated that the suspects are now in custody. They have been arraigned before the Asankrangwa District Court. The case will be sent to the Attorney-General’s Department for further action.

He warned those involved in illegal mining to stop immediately. The government is committed to fighting this issue. “Anyone caught will face the full rigours of the law,” he said.
