The Ghana Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism on Wednesday. They held a smooth leadership transition at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra.
Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong officially became the new Commandant. He took over from Major General Richard Addo Gyane during a formal ceremony.
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, supervised the change of command. He acted on behalf of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
The ceremony showcased military precision and dignity. It symbolized the Armed Forces' commitment to democratic values and structured leadership succession.
Mr. Genfi praised both Commandants for their service and leadership. He called the transition “a bold statement” about orderly processes in the Armed Forces.
Major General Gyane received recognition for his distinguished service. He advanced KAIPTC’s role as a regional hub for peacekeeping training and research.
Air Commodore Akrong brings extensive operational experience to his new role. His expertise is expected to enhance peace and security efforts across Africa.
The event included senior military officers, diplomats, KAIPTC staff, and invited guests. They witnessed the formal handing over of the command baton, reinforcing discipline and respect within the Armed Forces.
KAIPTC is named after former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. It plays a vital role in shaping Africa’s peacekeeping efforts with support from Ghana's government and international partners.
