Ghana's embassy in Washington reopens today after closure over corruption concerns

Ghana’s Embassy in Washington, D.C. will reopen this Thursday. The reopening follows a temporary shutdown due to corruption investigations. The Foreign Affairs Ministry announced the news.

The closure attracted national and international attention. It was part of a bold initiative by the Foreign Minister. This move aimed to eliminate malpractice in Ghana’s diplomatic operations.

Alfred Okoe Vanderpuye, a Member of Parliament, spoke to the media. He praised the Minister for taking swift action. “We commend the Foreign Minister for suspending embassy operations,” he said.

Mr. Vanderpuye added that this sends a strong message against corruption. He emphasized the government's zero-tolerance policy, even abroad.

Officials stated that the embassy will resume full operations soon. A new agenda will focus on integrity, accountability, and service excellence. Measures are in place to improve oversight and prevent future abuses.

The Majority Caucus of the Foreign Affairs Committee supports this reopening. They highlighted it as a commitment to transparency and good governance. “This revival is about resetting standards and rebuilding trust,” they noted.
