Gideon Boako questions Goldbod’s $3bn spending overrun

Dr. Gideon Boako is the MP for Tano North. He is also on Parliament’s Finance Committee. He has raised concerns about the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod).

Dr. Boako questioned how Goldbod spent nearly $3 billion. The agency was allocated only $279 million in the 2025 budget. He spoke to JoyNews on Wednesday, May 21.

He called for more transparency and accountability from Goldbod. Dr. Boako wants the government to explain where the extra funds came from. “The government allocated $279 million to Goldbod,” he said.

“However, current figures show that Goldbod has spent about $3 billion already.” He insisted that Parliament must be informed about this issue.

“This is a public institution,” he stated. “We cannot allow such spending to go unaccounted for.” Ghanaians deserve answers regarding funding sources, whether from donors or borrowing.

Dr. Boako warned that lack of clarity could harm public trust in Goldbod. “We are not against strategic use of resources,” he noted. “But we must understand how public agencies operate, especially with such large sums.”
