Health Minister launches #FP2030 to promote reproductive rights and access to contraception

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has launched the #FP2030 initiative. This initiative aims to help women and girls make informed choices about their reproductive health. It includes access to contraception and family planning services.

During the launch, Mr. Akandoh emphasized Ghana’s commitment to reproductive health. This commitment dates back to the National Family Planning Programme established in 1960. He stated, “We have worked hard to improve access to contraception and reproductive health services.” He added that today’s launch reaffirms their commitment to the future.

The FP2030 initiative was previously known as Family Planning 2020. It is a global partnership focused on advancing family planning as essential for health and development. The initiative operates on four guiding principles:

1. Voluntary, person-centred, rights-based approaches with equity at the core.
2. Empowering women and girls while engaging men, boys, and communities.
3. Building equitable partnerships with adolescents, youth, and marginalized populations.
4. Promoting country-led global cooperation focused on shared learning and accountability.

Mr. Akandoh noted that FP2030 aligns with Ghana’s broader health goals. It reflects the government’s resolve to support the rights and health of all citizens, especially women and girls.
