The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, has taken action. He ordered the Eastern North Regional Police Command to address armed robberies. These robberies are occurring along the Donkorkrom–Afram Plains North and South road.
This directive follows a petition from Jones Ofori-Atta, a concerned opinion leader. He highlighted the rising insecurity in the area. On June 4, 2025, he spoke on Accra 100.5 FM's Ghana Yensom Morning Show. Mr. Ofori-Atta shared that the IGP assured him measures were being implemented.
The IGP is committed to resolving security challenges. His goal is to revive economic activities and restore public confidence. This intervention comes as tensions rise among residents and frontline workers.
Earlier this week, health workers at Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital took action. They issued a two-week ultimatum to the government for urgent solutions. Wearing red armbands and neckbands, they protested peacefully in Donkorkrom.
In their petition to local authorities, they expressed serious concerns about safety. They highlighted threats to their lives and those of their patients. The hospital’s two doctors warned they might withdraw services by Friday if no action is taken.
“Our lives are at risk every day,” stated their petition. “If nothing changes, we will have no option but to lay down our tools.” The health workers demand immediate security operations to restore order in Afram Plains, which faces increasing violent crime and armed attacks.
