Ken Ofori-Atta dodges OSP appointment, opts to cooperate virtually

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will not appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) today. His health has suddenly deteriorated, according to sources close to him.

Mr. Ofori-Atta is currently unwell and receiving medical treatment. He has scheduled surgical procedures as part of his care. His legal team has submitted medical documentation to the OSP and the Human Rights Court.

This news comes amid speculation about whether Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng will declare Mr. Ofori-Atta a wanted person if he misses this appointment. The OSP hinted that such a move could happen soon.

Mr. Ofori-Atta is challenging his previous designation as a wanted person in the Human Rights Court. The court will rule on this matter on June 18, 2025.

On May 28, the OSP confirmed the adjournment via its official X account (formerly Twitter). They stated, “The Human Rights Court has adjourned to 18 June 2025 for a ruling on a motion filed by former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta.”

In his legal challenge, Mr. Ofori-Atta also wants the court to compel the OSP to remove previous "wanted" notices from social media platforms.

Meanwhile, sources say Mr. Ofori-Atta has offered to participate in the investigation remotely. His legal team proposed taking a Cautioned Statement virtually while he receives medical care.

The OSP has not yet issued an updated statement regarding how it will proceed after this development.
