The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu West, Mr. Tamimu Halidu, has issued a two-week ultimatum. Traders and drivers in unauthorized areas of Nkawkaw must relocate. They need to move to designated trading and parking zones.
This directive precedes a decongestion exercise starting on June 9, 2025. The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly is leading this initiative with local traditional authorities. The goal is to clear pavements and unauthorized parking spots that block movement in the town.
Mr. Halidu stressed the urgent need for order and better infrastructure. He acknowledged potential resistance, including threats like spiritual curses. However, he remains committed to enforcing the bylaws.
“I have given them ample time,” he stated. “This exercise is not about personal interest; it is about doing what is right for Nkawkaw’s development.”
He assured that the Assembly has prepared well for this transition. Affected traders and drivers will be relocated without disrupting their livelihoods.
The decongestion effort aims to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow in Nkawkaw. Residents and commuters support this move, hoping it will bring lasting order to the busy town center.
