Ms. Akua Sarpong, Executive Director of Lifeline for Childhood Cancer, Ghana, has made an urgent appeal for financial support. She aims to complete a pediatric oncology treatment center at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
This new facility will greatly increase the hospital's ability to care for children with cancer. At a fundraising event in Accra, Ms. Sarpong highlighted the need for more funding. The total project cost is estimated at $1.6 million, but only $452,000 has been raised so far.
“Every year, Korle-Bu records between 250 and 280 new childhood cancer cases,” she stated. “We urgently need this 40-bed treatment center to improve care and give children battling cancer a chance at life.”
She urged individuals, companies, and philanthropic organizations to support the project. Ms. Sarpong emphasized the emotional and financial burden childhood cancer places on families.
The center will provide advanced medical care and hope for affected children and families in Ghana. She stressed that collective national action is crucial to tackle this growing public health issue.
