President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to boost Ghana’s cashew industry. He revealed this during his “Thank You” tour of the Bono Region.
The initiative includes establishing a Cashew Development Board. This board will oversee production, processing, and pricing of cashews. It aims to ensure fair returns for farmers and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness globally.
“This board will streamline the entire cashew value chain,” President Mahama said. He added that it would provide farmers with recognition and support. The goal is to make Ghana a leading cashew exporter while improving livelihoods in farming communities.
The President's visit was also a gesture of gratitude for regional support in the 2024 elections. It reaffirmed his administration's commitment to key campaign promises.
As part of this initiative, the government plans to work with the private sector. They aim to establish cashew processing plants across the region. This strategy seeks to increase exports, create jobs, and attract investment into agro-processing.
Stakeholders welcomed the announcement as a significant step forward for Ghana’s cashew industry.
