Prof. Francis B. Zottor is a well-known nutritionist. He teaches at the Fred Newton Binka School of Public Health, UHAS in Ho, Volta Region. He urged media professionals to educate the public on nutrition and healthy living.
He spoke during a two-day workshop for journalists from Volta and Oti Regions. The workshop focused on raising awareness about nutrition, health, and sustainable agri-food systems.
Prof. Zottor highlighted the media's power to influence public opinion. He stressed that better reporting on health and nutrition is essential. Poor nutrition contributes to non-communicable diseases in Ghana and worldwide.
“The media is a powerful vehicle for change,” he said. Journalists should inform the public about healthy diets and proper nutrition. They must also highlight how food systems affect health and the environment.
He encouraged journalists to seek expert information. Presenting this information in local languages can help reach everyone in society.
The workshop aimed to equip journalists with tools for accurate reporting on health issues. This will help them contribute to sustainable food systems and improved public health.
Participants praised the initiative and promised to cover more health-related topics. They specifically mentioned focusing on nutrition and sustainable agriculture in their communities.
