A group of unhappy grassroots members from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Lower Manya Krobo is demanding action. They want the President and party leaders to withdraw Mr. John Atter Matey's nomination as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
At a press conference in Nuaso Newtown, the group expressed their anger. They feel betrayed and believe their loyalty and service have been ignored. Odonkor David Der and Francis Kwawukume read a statement on behalf of the group.
They accused Mr. Matey of being divisive and arrogant. They also claimed he lacks the qualities needed to lead effectively. “This nomination insults dedicated party members who have served for over three decades,” they stated.
The group highlighted several allegations against Mr. Matey. These include failing to account for a GHC 50,000 donation during primaries. They also mentioned hoarding fertilizers meant for farmers and lacking transparency with party resources.
Additionally, they accused him of manipulating the appointment process by involving family members. The group noted that other experienced party members were unfairly overlooked for the position.
“This political injustice breeds discontent,” they warned. It threatens unity and stability within the NDC in Lower Manya Krobo. They cautioned that ignoring their concerns could lead to unrest in the constituency.
The group concluded with an appeal to the President and Chief of Staff for intervention. They called this situation a “grave mistake” that needs correction. “This is not about personalities,” they emphasized, “it’s about justice, loyalty, competence, and our future.”
They warned that if their demands are ignored, peace in the constituency could be at risk.
