Omama Herbal Mixture: The new addictive craze among Greater Accra youth

A powerful herbal drink called Omama Herbal Mixture is popular in Greater Accra. It contains opioids and has become a favorite among local youth. Another product, Omama Koo Bitters, known as "Odindin," is also gaining traction.

The mixture costs just GHS 5 per tot. Users appreciate it not for health benefits but for its high. They say it mimics alcohol effects while keeping them feeling sober.

Young patrons report that the drink enhances sexual performance and prolongs activity. The Omama Herbal Group manufactures this concoction in the Ashanti Region. Its popularity has spread quickly across the capital.

Classfmonline.com found that Omama products are sold openly, unlike traditional herbal medicines. They are available at bars and local joints alongside alcoholic drinks. In places like Pokuase, the herbal mixture sits on shelves with alcohol despite its medicinal packaging.

When opened, it gives off a strong smell similar to antibiotics. However, this does not stop young consumers from enjoying its intense high. One user noted that when it first launched, a bottle cost GHS 20.

As demand grew, the price increased to GHS 50 per bottle. He explained that Omama's appeal lies in its ability to intoxicate without the smell of alcohol. He described the feeling after drinking it as a heavy, dull intoxication.
