The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) has suspended its plan to stop healthcare services for National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cardholders. This decision follows assurances from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). The NHIA promised to settle outstanding claims by Monday, April 7, 2025.
Previously, PHFAoG announced a temporary suspension of services. They cited severe financial issues due to delays in reimbursements. This suspension took effect on Friday, April 4. It aimed to highlight the cash flow crisis affecting private healthcare providers.
After a meeting between PHFAoG leaders and NHIA management, the Association decided to suspend their action. Dr. Kwame Buabeng-Frimpong, President of PHFAoG, stated they received renewed payment assurances. He noted that this decision reflects good faith from the NHIA.
However, the Association warned it may take further action if the NHIA does not fulfill its promise. During the meeting, Dr. Asare Bampoe, CEO of NHIA, emphasized his commitment to a sustainable reimbursement system. He believes this is essential for building a strong health sector.
In light of these developments, PHFAoG instructed all private healthcare facilities to resume full services for NHIS cardholders. They are expected to continue providing quality care aligned with national health goals.
