The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has arrested one person. This is in connection with the death of a 21-year-old student. The student, Yabane Deladem Aku, was in her final year at KNUST. She studied Biological Science and lived in Kumasi, Ashanti region.
Preliminary investigations show she was found unresponsive. Her body was discovered behind the Central Laboratory on campus early today, February 27, 2025. Medical authorities from KNUST Hospital pronounced her dead at the scene. They later took her body to the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police examined her body and found signs of violence. They arrested a suspect named Daniel Tuffour during their investigation. He is currently in custody and assisting with inquiries.
A police statement from Assistant Commissioner Grace Ansah-Akrofi confirmed these details. Inspector-General of Police George Akuffo Dampare met with the deceased's family to express condolences. He assured them that justice would be served.
The IGP also spoke with the university community about safety measures. They discussed ways for police and the university to work together for better protection on campus.
