Police writes to Speaker to release Afenyo-Markin for alleged assualt investigations

The Ghana Police Service has invited Alexander Afenyo-Markin for questioning. He is the Deputy Majority Leader and MP for Effutu Constituency in the Central Region. This invitation is related to an alleged assault on a police officer during a recent demonstration.

The police reviewed multiple video recordings from the protest. These videos appear to show Afenyo-Markin involved in the incident.

Following legal protocol, the police have contacted Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin. They requested Afenyo-Markin’s release to assist with the investigation.

The police officer who was allegedly assaulted will also take part in the investigation. This will help establish the facts surrounding the incident.

The Ghana Police Service is committed to transparency and due process. They aim to clarify the circumstances of the alleged assault.
