President Mahama appoints Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo as new CEO of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo as the new CEO of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. This follows the dismissal of Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah.

The appointment was confirmed in an official statement on April 30, 2025. The statement was signed by Callistus Mahama, the Secretary to the President. It directed that Dr. Baidoo’s nomination be regularized under the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 525), as amended.

Dr. Baidoo’s nomination has sparked public reactions, especially from Asante youth. Many have expressed strong opposition to Prof. Addai-Mensah's removal. Some are urging President Mahama to reconsider and reinstate the former CEO.
