Rashid Pelpuo appointed co-chair of high-level ILO conference in Geneva

Dr. Rashid Pelpuo is the new Co-Chair of the Tripartite High-Level Session. This session will be part of the Fair Recruitment Initiative (FRI) Conference. The conference is set for May 19 to 21, 2025. It will take place at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Headquarters in Geneva.

Pelpuo will co-chair with Hon. Ali Bin Saeed Samikh Al Marri from Qatar. The conference has support from key organizations. These include the International Trade Union Confederation and the International Organisation of Employers.

The focus will be on fair recruitment practices worldwide. It aims to protect migrant and vulnerable workers from exploitation. Issues like contract deception, high fees, and forced labour will be addressed.

The ILO’s Fair Recruitment Initiative promotes merit-based recruitment. It emphasizes transparency and opposes discrimination based on gender, race, or religion.

Ahead of the event, Dr. Pelpuo highlighted the need for ethical recruitment systems. He stated that this is a call to action for dignity and fairness in work environments.

With changing global labour dynamics, this conference is timely. It offers a chance to build on FRI achievements and tackle new challenges. The goal is to create a just and inclusive recruitment framework for all workers, regardless of nationality.
