Rotational Nurses and Midwives in Ghana are frustrated. They have not received their national service allowances for 11 months.
Mavis Akoto Frimpong, Secretary of the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA), spoke about this issue. She said they have engaged with the Ministry of Health and the previous government multiple times. Despite these efforts, nothing has changed.
Mavis made a heartfelt appeal to President John Dramani Mahama and the current Minister of Health. She described the situation as dire and unsustainable.
“We have done everything necessary to get our allowances paid, but to no avail,” she said. “For nearly a year, we’ve worked tirelessly without financial support. It’s unfair and discouraging.”
She urged stakeholders to help, noting that many colleagues are struggling as their service period ends. “Some of us can’t afford transportation to work,” she explained. “We can’t feed ourselves properly, and even our parents have given up on us.”
The RNMA is calling for urgent attention to this matter. They warn that neglecting rotational nurses and midwives could demoralize future healthcare professionals. This neglect may also impact the quality of healthcare delivery across Ghana.
