Minister for Communications, Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed his commitment to Ghanaians. He stated that his loyalty is to the public, not Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
Mr. George emphasized that ordinary Ghanaians' interests will always come first. "I am the Minister for Communications for Ghana," he declared. "The interests of ordinary Ghanaians will always come first in every policy decision."
He made these remarks while addressing questions about regulatory enforcement and industry cooperation. This comes amid lobbying efforts from MNOs.
The Minister noted that the government welcomes private sector participation. However, it remains firm on protecting the public good. "This space will not be run solely for profit at the expense of the public good," he stressed.
He also pledged transparency and fairness in managing the telecom sector. Consumer protection will remain a top priority, he asserted. "The days when telcos could run roughshod over regulatory frameworks are over," he stated.
Mr. George's comments indicate a strong regulatory stance by the government. The aim is to ensure fairness and transparency in the telecom sector while prioritizing Ghanaian consumers' welfare.
He spoke during an appearance on JoyNews’ PM Express on Tuesday, April 15.
