The Sunyani East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Vincent Antwi Adjei, has cut the sod for a new bridge at Abesim. This project is in the Bono Region of Ghana.
Mr. Antwi Adjei said the bridge is part of the President’s Secondary City Support Initiative. This initiative provides funding to improve local infrastructure.
Once completed, the bridge will connect Abesim with Ahenfoseiye and nearby villages. It will ease travel for residents and boost local commerce.
“This bridge will open up economic opportunities,” said the MCE at the ceremony. He added that improved accessibility will enhance trade and livelihoods in the municipality.
The government of Ghana is financing this project with support from the World Bank. This partnership shows a commitment to regional development.
Construction work is set to begin immediately. Local contractors are mobilizing equipment and materials for the site.
Community members welcomed this announcement. They praised both the Municipal Assembly and central government for addressing a long-standing issue.
“This bridge has been needed for years,” one resident said. “We’re grateful that travel will soon be safer and faster.”
Construction is expected to take several months. The Municipal Assembly promises regular updates on progress and quality workmanship.
