Sunyani GNAT Secretary calls on gov't to address outstanding teacher concerns

Kofi Lotwu is the Sunyani Municipal Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT). He has urged the government to address long-standing issues affecting teachers. This call was made during an interview with CTV and Accra FM at the GNAT Delegates Conference in Sunyani.

Mr. Lotwu expressed disappointment over delays in teacher promotions. Many teachers have been due for promotion since 2023. He called this situation unacceptable and demoralizing for dedicated educators.

He also pointed out that rural teachers are struggling. These teachers qualify for various allowances but have not received them. "They continue to deliver quality education under challenging conditions," he said.

Mr. Lotwu emphasized that many pressing issues need immediate attention from the government. He urged the Ministry of Education to act quickly on these matters. "We are giving the government until the end of June to resolve these issues," he warned.

He added that failure to address these concerns may lead to further action. Mr. Lotwu encouraged newly elected Sunyani GNAT executives to advocate for members' welfare. He called on all teachers in the municipality to support their new leadership.
