The Extraction Accountability Project (TEAP) has criticized Godwin Armah. He is the General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM). TEAP accuses him of irresponsible mining practices. They claim he prioritizes profits over environmental protection.
Charles McCarthy leads TEAP. He stated that Armah's activities have caused significant environmental damage. This includes open pits and a lack of land reclamation. McCarthy questioned Armah’s integrity, noting his public opposition to irresponsible mining.
TEAP highlighted a conflict of interest with Armah's appointment to the Gold Board. They believe his alleged involvement in environmental destruction undermines his position. The group demands his immediate removal from the Gold Board.
They cite his lack of integrity and environmental harm as reasons for this demand. TEAP expects quick action from relevant authorities, including finance and natural resources ministers. They also urge the CEO of the Gold Board to act.
Additionally, TEAP calls for the Minerals Commission to revoke Armah’s mining license. They argue he has lost his right to operate in Ghana's mining sector.
