A deadly shooting has left the Nkawkaw Zongo community in fear. Three Fulani men were gunned down by masked assailants on Tuesday evening, May 20, 2025.
The victims were Mohammed Wanto, 47, Abubakari Abdallah, 57, and Abubakar Mohammed, 56. They were attacked at their usual meeting spot near a veterinary shop around 8:00 p.m. Two men died instantly. The third was shot while trying to flee.
A young boy was injured in the crossfire. He is currently receiving treatment at Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital.
The shocking attack has caused fear among residents. Some are calling for tighter security measures. Others demand the removal of the Fulani community due to safety concerns.
In response, Municipal Chief Executive Halidu Tamimu announced plans to improve security along the Zongo–Akuajoo stretch. CCTV cameras will be installed through a partnership with the Minister for Communications and NITA's CEO.
Meanwhile, Nkawkaw Central Police Command is investigating the killings. The identities and motives of the attackers are still unknown. Police are pursuing multiple leads to restore calm in the community.
Authorities urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigations. Efforts are intensifying to bring the perpetrators to justice.
