V/R: 10 dead in vehicular accident in Sogakofe

The Sogakofe Police Command is investigating the tragic death of 10 passengers. They were in a white Ford Transit commercial vehicle with registration number VD 468-22.

The accident occurred near St Catherine SHS on the Sogakofe-Akatsi Highway in the Volta Region. It happened on Thursday evening, May 29, 2025. Other injured passengers were taken to Sogakofe Government Hospital for treatment.

Divisional Officer Grade III Saviour Coffie spoke to the media. He is the Akatsi South Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). He called the incident unfortunate due to its severe impact.

“We had to pull out the driver and two other passengers who died on the spot,” he said.

Reports indicate that the driver was heading towards Akatsi when he tried to overtake vehicles. He lost control and collided with a moving tipper truck, causing the accident.

Nine passengers died at the scene, including one female passenger. Another passenger died Friday morning while receiving medical care at Sogakofe Government Hospital.

An eyewitness reported that the driver, known as Inno, engaged in unnecessary overtaking before the crash.
