V/R: Ho High Court sentences two to 94 years, another to life imprisonment for murder of Sogakope Assembly Member

The Ho High Court has convicted two individuals for the murder of Marcus Mawutor Adzahli. Each received a 47-year sentence. Justice John Ekow Mensah presided over the case.

Richard Adikyere was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was found guilty of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and robbery. Emmanuel Xetro and Stephen Adzibolo also faced similar charges and received 47-year sentences.

The court determined that all three participated in Mr. Adzahli's killing. He was attacked in his home in Sogakope on March 1, 2020. This crime shocked the Sogakope community and drew widespread condemnation.

Two others, Samuel Zotorvi and Christian Zotorvi, were previously sentenced to 15 years each for their involvement. After the verdict, Geoffrey Adzahli expressed mixed emotions about his son's death. He described Marcus as the family's breadwinner but praised law enforcement for their efforts.

"They did a great job," he said. "This is a victory for justice." Senior State Attorney Andrews Dodzi Aduguin shared concerns about rising crime rates in Ghana, especially in the Volta region.

He reassured the public that the state is committed to enforcing laws and holding offenders accountable. "This verdict shows our justice system's resolve," he stated.

Mr. Aduguin urged young people to avoid crime and focus on productive activities instead. "There are many opportunities for those who work hard," he advised.

The case has drawn significant public attention. The verdict aims to deter others from committing similar offenses.
