VRA opens 33-unit biodigester toilet facility in Fakpoe to tackle open defecation

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has opened a new toilet facility in North Tongu District. This 33-unit biodigester toilet is located in the Fakpoe community. It cost GH₵330,000 to construct.

The facility aims to reduce open defecation and related diseases. It is part of VRA's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts for sustainable development.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Patrick Mireku spoke on behalf of the CEO. He noted that a needs assessment identified poor sanitation as a major issue in Fakpoe.

He urged residents to take ownership of the facility. Proper use and maintenance are essential for its long-term benefits.

Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, the District Chief Executive, praised the project. She called it transformative for public health and community dignity.

Torgbe Yao Gbeve II, the Chief of Fakpoe, thanked VRA for their support. He believes this facility will improve residents' quality of life and serve as a lasting legacy.
