WAEC calls for stakeholder support to help curb rising exam malpractices

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has made a strong appeal. They want stakeholders in education to unite against examination malpractice. WAEC says this issue threatens the credibility of academic assessments.

This call was made during a meeting in Ho. Mr. John K. Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, emphasized the need for collective action. He said it is crucial to protect the integrity of the examination system.

“Examination malpractice undermines fairness and compromises our educational system,” Mr. Kapi stated. He warned that it jeopardizes students' futures as well.

He urged schools, teachers, parents, students, and government agencies to help combat this problem. Addressing it requires tighter security and monitoring, he explained. It also needs a cultural shift towards integrity and academic honesty.

Mr. Kapi encouraged students to take their studies seriously. “You owe it to yourselves to learn and prepare well,” he advised. Cheating only robs you of true achievement and harms your future.

Participants at the forum shared similar concerns about examination malpractice. They urged WAEC to strengthen its internal systems for better oversight. They also called for improved security for exam materials and better training for invigilators.
