Wontumi expected to return to EOCO tomorrow for further questioning

Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, has been released from EOCO custody. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Wontumi was granted bail of GHS 50 million. He met his bail conditions around 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2. His lawyer, Mr. Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed this during an interview on Neat FM.

Wontumi must return to EOCO for further questioning on Wednesday, June 4. He will also return on Monday, June 9, 2025, as investigations continue.

Appiah-Kubi thanked EOCO officials for extending their hours to facilitate Wontumi’s release. He also expressed gratitude to MPs Bryan Acheampong and George Boahen Oduro for their support in meeting bail requirements.

Mr. Appiah-Kubi noted that Acheampong's property alone exceeded the required surety value. Attempts by others to stand surety were unsuccessful due to documentation issues.

Wontumi is currently in frail health. He plans to request permission from the CID for medical attention. He missed a scheduled meeting with the CID last Thursday because he was detained by EOCO.
