Akosua Manu is the New Patriotic Party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for Adentan. She criticized President John Dramani Mahama’s administration on Channel One TV. She called the dumsor levy “draconian and farcical.”
Madam Manu accused the NDC of hypocrisy in handling energy issues. She said their approach lacks transparency and proper consultation. The dumsor levy was introduced without adequate stakeholder engagement.
“It was introduced in darkness, quite literally and figuratively,” she stated. Ghanaians woke up to a tax that had no public debate or explanation.
She also recalled how the NDC opposed the Akufo-Addo government’s Electronic Levy (E-levy). She described their previous stance as disingenuous.
“It is political inconsistency for a party that vilified the E-levy to defend this levy,” she said. “Where was the stakeholder engagement then?”
Madam Manu called for honest national conversations about energy financing. She emphasized fairness and consistency in political discourse.
