Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Gbevlo-Lartey at Sankara's mausoleum inauguration in Burkina Faso

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the MP for Korle Klottey, praised Burkina Faso. She commended the country for honoring Captain Thomas Sankara.

At the inauguration of the new Thomas Sankara Mausoleum in Ouagadougou, she spoke about its significance. This moment helps preserve national identity and historical memory.

The mausoleum stands where Sankara and twelve comrades were killed in 1987. It combines modern design with traditional Burkinabe craftsmanship. This reflects a unique blend of memory, culture, and legacy.

"This is more than just a monument," Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings stated. "It is a living tribute to justice and accountability." These ideals continue to inspire Africa today.

Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey (Retired), Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahel States, also spoke. He drew parallels between Captain Sankara and Ghana’s late President Jerry John Rawlings.

Col. Gbevlo-Lartey described them as ideological peers. They shared commitments to justice, equity, and grassroots empowerment.

"They were charismatic and courageous leaders," he noted. "Their visions focused on self-reliance and people-centered governance."

The mausoleum's inauguration is part of Burkina Faso's effort to honor Sankara's legacy. It also reaffirms Pan-African solidarity among nations.

During the event, Ghana received an honor too. A street in Ouagadougou will be named after President Jerry John Rawlings soon. This recognizes his friendship with Sankara and his role in African liberation.
