The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Ashanti Region has formed a committee. This committee will investigate a recent shooting at the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Senior High School in Bantama. The incident left two students injured.
Henry Osei Boateng, the Public Relations Officer of GES, announced that the committee will start work immediately. Its findings will help determine necessary sanctions. "We are waiting for some members to come," he said.
The school is under a metro, so there are representatives from both the metro and SDA unit on the committee. The regional director will lead the investigation with other members. They will visit the school soon to begin their work.
The shooting occurred on Friday, April 4, 2025. It started after an argument among students about a firearm allegedly owned by Bernard Amoabeng, a Form Two student. The disagreement escalated into gunfire, injuring two students. Amoabeng is currently in police custody.
One victim, named Penamang, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He has since been discharged but remains under medical review.
In response to this incident, GES headquarters has ordered immediate searches at senior high schools. These searches aim to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Boateng stated that teachers will receive training on how to conduct these searches effectively.
He emphasized that student safety and wellbeing are top priorities for GES. The organization plans to strengthen security measures across all campuses.
