The Ghana Health Service in the Agona West District of the Central Region has reported 214 suspected cases of cholera, with 11 confirmed so far, prompting health authorities to declare an emergency.
Municipal Health Director Bertha Arthur disclosed that the suspected cases include individuals showing symptoms such as dehydration, diarrhea, and vomiting.
Samples sent to the lab confirmed cholera in 11 patients.
“In outbreak conditions, when cases exceed a certain threshold, it becomes an emergency,” she explained.
The Municipal Health Directorate has intensified public education campaigns and is collaborating with stakeholders to curb the outbreak. Residents are being urged to maintain strict hygiene practices and promptly report any symptoms to healthcare facilities for treatment.
“With all hands on deck, we believe we can control the situation. Early reporting is key to saving lives,” the Director emphasized.
