A cholera outbreak in the Agona West Municipality has claimed three lives and left over 200 suspected cases, with 11 confirmed by the Swedru Municipal Government Hospital.

Simon Asare, the Municipal Coordinating Director, revealed the figures during a stakeholder meeting in Agona Swedru. Agona Nkum has been identified as the epicenter, with numerous cases also reported in Agona Nyakrom.

The Assembly has implemented swift measures, including supplying water to affected areas and pressuring the Ghana Water Company to repair damaged pipelines.

Residents have been given a three-month grace period to build household toilets to enhance sanitation, with non-compliance facing penalties.

Stakeholders, including chiefs, political leaders, and CSOs, have pledged to collaborate in tackling the outbreak and ensuring environmental cleanliness across the municipality.
