The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has expressed frustration over the suspension of a vehicle importation tax waiver that was part of its 2024 Conditions of Service agreement with the government.
In a letter dated February 19, 2025, signed by GMA President Dr. Frank Serebour and General Secretary Dr. Richard Selormey, the Association noted that the waiver, which took effect in July 2024, has been stalled since January 2025 following the change in government.
As a result, many doctors who had already paid for vehicles in advance are now facing hefty demurrage charges.
The GMA has advised its members to either delay vehicle imports or clear them at full cost while awaiting clarity on the waiver’s reinstatement.
The Association also reminded affected members of their right to withhold certain payments, as outlined in their Conditions of Service, and assured them of continuous updates on the issue.
