Ghana has achieved a remarkable 95% vaccine immunisation coverage. This accomplishment has earned praise from the global vaccine alliance, GAVI.
The recognition occurred during a meeting between the Ministry of Health and GAVI officials. They commended Ghana's commitment to improving vaccine access.
Dr. Sania Nishtar, CEO of GAVI, called Ghana’s progress exceptional. She credited this success to ongoing investments in health systems.
“I want to commend Ghana for its immunisation coverage,” she said. “You have maintained DBT1 and DBT3 coverage above 95%. You introduced 13 antigens into your routine programs. I also heard about the HPV multi-age cohort launch and hepatitis B birth dose introduction. Our independent review committee has approved your application.”
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh welcomed this endorsement. He described it as validation of the ministry’s hard work.
“The presentation focused on coverage,” he noted. “We saw figures around 80%, with some cases reaching 99%. Achieving 99% is significant, and we will maintain our progress.”
This global recognition solidifies Ghana’s position as a leader in immunisation in Africa. It highlights the importance of partnerships and funding in public health.
The Ministry is dedicated to closing remaining immunisation gaps in the coming years.
