The Hulede Foundation, based in the USA, donated 110 laptops to Opoku Ware School in Kumasi. They also provided 108 computer desks and chairs. This donation took place on Friday morning. Katakyie Johnny Hulede (Z7), an alumnus of the school, facilitated it. He is a cybersecurity expert currently living in the USA.
Rev. Fr. Stephen Owusu Sekyere, the headmaster, received the computers. He expressed deep gratitude to Kat. Hulede for this generous gift. The headmaster noted that this donation would greatly enhance teaching and learning at the school. It will help students gain essential skills for their future careers.
Kat. Mike Adu Domfeh (AB146), Global President of the alumni association, spoke at the event. He highlighted how alumni have prioritized supporting younger generations over the years. He praised the Hulede Foundation's generosity and hoped it would inspire others to help.
Kat. Johnny Hulede encouraged students to take their studies seriously. He emphasized putting God at the center of their lives. He believes in helping those less privileged and sharing his blessings with others.
In addition to donating laptops, Kat. Hulede is refurbishing the school's IT center. This includes installing burglar-proof systems and painting it anew. He committed to maintaining both the facility and its equipment.
To honor his contributions, the IT center was renamed after him: Kat. Johnny Hulede (Z7) IT Centre. The ceremony included school staff, students, classmates from Z group Akatakyie, and beneficiaries of a scholarship scheme from KNUST.
The Hulede Foundation was established in 2018 by Patrick and John Hulede in memory of their father, Mr. Patrick Hulede—the first head of KNUST Printing Press. Its mission is to create educational opportunities for underprivileged individuals to improve their lives.
