Indian High Commissioner announces cooperation in herbal medicine between Ghana and India

The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Manish Gupta, announced a new agreement. Ghana and India will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU aims to enhance cooperation in herbal and alternative medicine.

H.E. Gupta shared this news during a media event at the Volta Serene in Ho. This event was part of his working visit to the region.

He explained that the MoU will expand health sector engagement. It will focus on herbal medicine and traditional healing practices. These areas are becoming more popular in both countries.

"We have begun working on an MoU to strengthen collaboration," H.E. Gupta said. He noted that both countries recognize alternative herbal remedies for diseases. Sharing knowledge and best practices is essential.

The partnership will include the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho. It will also involve institutions from India. H.E. Gupta believes this initiative will deepen India-Ghana relations in health, agriculture, and education.

H.E. Gupta praised the Volta Region's natural beauty and hospitality. He described it as his favorite region in Ghana. "Nature is everything, and I truly love nature," he said.

Earlier, he met with Volta Regional Minister James Gunu. They discussed strengthening partnerships between Ghana and India in various sectors like tourism, health, education, culture, sports, and investment.

The High Commissioner highlighted ongoing Indian investments in the region. These include rice cultivation, sugarcane farming, and cement production. He noted these efforts show India's commitment to Ghana’s development.

H.E. Gupta mentioned wellness tourism could thrive in the Volta Region too. The region's natural resources align well with India's Ayurveda traditions.

He reiterated India's commitment to capacity building through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme. This program has helped over 4,000 Ghanaians since it started.

According to H.E. Gupta, ITEC offers opportunities in agriculture, public administration, IT, and healthcare.

He acknowledged the media's role as the fourth estate. He emphasized stronger engagement between the Indian Mission and Ghanaian media professionals is needed.

"I know the media plays a crucial role in shaping society," he said excitedly about future meetings.

H.E. Gupta's visit brings opportunities for enhancing diplomatic ties with the Volta Region.
