The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Aboagye Dacosta, has disclosed plans to extend support to patients in need of kidney transplants.
This initiative will mark the third phase of the government’s kidney care strategy, aimed at addressing acute, chronic, and end-stage renal diseases.
Speaking to Rainbow Radio UK, Dr. Dacosta highlighted the NPP government’s efforts to provide affordable healthcare for kidney patients, including funding acute cases and launching a free dialysis initiative for end-stage patients through Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's support.
The third phase includes kidney transplant services at the UGMC and an upcoming organ donation policy.
He emphasized the importance of direct NHIS funding via a proposed flat tax structure to ensure sustainable resources for kidney care programs.
