The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has unveiled a list of health facilities across the country that will provide free dialysis treatment, effective December 1, 2024.

This includes major hospitals such as Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, and Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, among others.

The move follows Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's announcement that the government will offer free dialysis for all kidney patients covered under the NHIS.

This initiative, building on a successful pilot program, aims to ease the financial burden on kidney patients and their families.

Despite concerns about readiness, the NHIA has assured the public that preparations are underway, with additional dialysis machines and funding from the World Bank to support the policy's implementation.
