Over 30,000 unemployed allied health professionals demand immediate recruitment

The Coalition of Unemployed Allied Health Professionals Association of Ghana is angry. They are upset about the government's failure to hire thousands of qualified health professionals. Many have been jobless since 2019.

Over 30,000 unemployed allied health professionals want immediate recruitment. They also demand clear timelines and a national policy to prevent further delays in their postings. This group includes medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, and radiographers.

They feel neglected and discriminated against despite critical shortages in public health facilities. The coalition stated, “It is unacceptable that highly trained professionals are idle at home.” They emphasized that patients suffer while health workers are overstretched.

The group criticized the burden of mandatory license renewal. They must complete this annually at their own expense, even while unemployed. This situation adds to their emotional, psychological, and financial hardships.

They pointed out systemic discrimination in the recruitment process. Some health professionals get automatic postings after internships, but allied health professionals do not. The coalition concluded by stating, “Allied health professionals are ignored and neglected.” They demand equal recognition and opportunities in the healthcare system.
