Understanding how the gut works can help us make better dietary choices. This can lead to improved health. In this article, we will explore the functions of the gut and its microbiome's significance.

Functions of the Gut

Think of the gut as a busy factory processing food. It breaks down food into smaller pieces during digestion. This allows your body to extract necessary nutrients.

The gut breaks down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into simpler substances. These substances are then absorbed into your bloodstream along with vitamins, minerals, and water.
