Presec Legon’s Kofi Asamoah Wins Library Authority’s Second Youth Advocacy Challenge

The Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) has announced Kofi Asamoah Asamoah-Okyere as the winner of the Youth Advocacy Challenge. This edition focused on “Examining the Impact of Substance Abuse on Youth.”

Kofi is a 16-year-old second-year science student at Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC). He stood out among many entries with his innovative approach to substance abuse. His proposal included practical, community-driven strategies to reduce substance abuse.

Kofi’s passion for advocacy comes from various experiences. He was a finalist in the 2024 UBA National Essay Competition. He also represented Ghana in the National Debate Team at the 2025 Harvard World Schools Tournament.

The Youth Advocacy Challenge is part of the UNICEF-funded Youth Engagement Centre (YEC) project. It allows young Ghanaians to voice their opinions in national discussions. The initiative encourages creative thinking and empowers youth to demand positive change.

Kofi's winning entry underwent rigorous evaluation by a panel. He received a cash prize of GHC 3,000 and national recognition through media publication. His win highlights how youth voices can create transformative impacts on societal issues.

Angela Osei Gyan, Head of Corporate Affairs at GhLA, commented on this milestone. She stated that the challenge shows belief in young voices inspiring change. Kofi’s ideas remind us that youth advocacy builds resilient communities.

Looking ahead, GhLA announced that the 3rd Edition will focus on Child Protection. Applications will be available soon and advertised on GhLA's social media channels (@ghanalibraries) and official website (www.library.gov.gh). Young people aged 14 to 24 are invited to participate by writing essays on this important theme.
