Private health facilities association of Ghana launches 5th annual general conference

The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) has called for unity among private healthcare providers. They aim to address key health issues and strengthen their role in national healthcare.

This call was made during the 3rd General Meeting of the Volta and Oti regional chapter. The meeting took place under the 5th annual general conference.

Mrs. Agnes Mawusi Nkansah, Chapter Chairperson, welcomed attendees. She highlighted the important role private health facilities play in healthcare delivery. These facilities often reach areas that public services cannot.

"Yet, our contributions have not been fully recognized or supported," Mrs. Nkansah stated. She noted that the PHFAoG provides a stronger platform for engaging policymakers and improving service standards.

“We are ready to collaborate and share knowledge,” she said. “We want to transform healthcare access and quality in our communities.” She emphasized professionalism, accountability, and service as key commitments.

Mr. Samuel Boakye, National Vice President, delivered the keynote address. He urged all private facilities to work together for better healthcare outcomes.

Mr. Boakye expressed concern about current membership numbers in the association. While there are over 1,310 members nationally, he noted low membership in the Volta chapter. He encouraged them to intensify membership drives.

He added that delivering quality healthcare requires collaboration: “No single facility can operate effectively in isolation.”

Mr. Frank Torblu Richard, General Secretary, raised concerns about the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). He criticized their practice of announcing payments before they are disbursed.

“This places undue pressure on private facilities,” he said. Mr. Torblu urged NHIA to initiate payments before making announcements to avoid operational difficulties.

He called for urgent action regarding financial strain from delayed reimbursements due to premature announcements by NHIA.

Mr. David Nkegbe Agornyrah is the Regional Coordinator of HeFRA for Volta and Oti. He encouraged private health providers to collaborate with his office for quality healthcare delivery.

He reminded facilities to comply with regulations and register with HeFRA before starting operations.

Mr. Emmanuel Avinu is Operations Manager at NHIA. He acknowledged the vital contribution of private health providers in healthcare delivery.

He mentioned that NHIA has started public education campaigns at district levels. These campaigns help cardholders understand health insurance benefits better.

During this event, PHFAoG launched its 5th Annual General Conference scheduled for October 14-18, 2025, in Ho. The theme will be: “Unlocking Opportunities: Leveraging Government’s Private Sector Development Policy to Boost Ghana’s Private Health Sector.”
