The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) has issued a directive. All members must charge National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cardholders for unpaid claims.
The association noted delays in reimbursements. Some private facilities are owed money for up to eight months.
In an interview with Citi News, Aaron Nyamekye spoke about the issue. He is the Deputy General Secretary of PHFAoG. He mentioned that these outstanding payments have caused financial strain on private health providers.
This strain affects their ability to operate effectively. Nyamekye acknowledged that the government has made promises to pay. However, he emphasized the need for evidence of payments in providers' accounts.
"If not, we will continue our actions," he warned. "We may even intensify them soon."
He also stated that all facilities will start charging clients directly. "There is no money to run healthcare," he said, describing the current situation.
