TV host removed from NHIA board after outrage over questionable medical credentials

President John Dramani Mahama has removed Anne Sansa Daly from the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). This decision comes amid concerns about her lack of a valid medical licence to practise in Ghana.

The Office of the President announced that Prof Dr (Med) Ernest Yorke will replace Daly immediately. Authorities have been instructed to ensure his swift swearing-in.

While the statement did not specify reasons for Daly’s dismissal, sources indicate it follows scrutiny from health professionals and the public. They raised concerns about her representation as a medical doctor without a valid licence.

Stakeholders in the health sector questioned Daly’s qualifications and fitness for the board position.

Prof. Ernest Yorke is a seasoned physician and former Greater Accra Regional Chair of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA). He has been widely welcomed as a competent replacement.

Yorke is expected to bring his experience and leadership to strengthen the NHIA Board’s oversight. The NHIA Board plays a critical role in shaping policy for Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This scheme is essential for delivering healthcare services to millions of Ghanaians.
