The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has destroyed expired products worth over GHC 500,000 in Tamale.
The products, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, herbal medicines, and food items, were confiscated during routine market inspections.
The FDA worked with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ensure safe disposal practices.
Gandaa Meshark, the FDA’s Enforcement Unit Head, stressed the importance of preventing harmful products from reaching the public. He also raised concerns about the misuse of tramadol despite ongoing education campaigns.
Meshark urged consumers to check expiry dates and use medications only as prescribed.
The FDA assured the public of its ongoing efforts to ensure safe, approved products are sold, in line with the Public Health Act 2012 (Act 851).
